About the Program
The SBW Berlin Scholarship for International Students is an opportunity that supports talented international students with a demonstrated commitment to social causes. Recipients apply their skills in social projects at non-profit organisations in their home countries during and after their studies. Selected candidates will receive tuition fees and other benefits.

What is the Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be an international student
- be between the ages of 18 and 30
- hold a student visa or residence permit for the purpose of taking up or pursuing studies in Germany
- qualify for the respective institute's entrance criteria
- hold an average grade equivalent to a German grade point average of at least 2.0
- have professional or volunteer experience in the non-profit/social sector
- prove a relatively low net income
- have demonstrably not resided in Germany for more than 18 months before application
- intend to work for at least 18 months in the country of origin after graduation or to engage in charitable activities in Germany until the repayment plan is fulfilled
- have no first-degree family members permanently residing in Germany
- apply before starting studies/be fully enrolled in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd semester at a state-recognised university, or apply for a Master’s degree shortly before/after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree
Note:
- Applicants should demonstrate social commitment, prior collaboration with non-profits, good academic performance, a continuing education plan, and transparent communication about professional goals.
- Family financial support is not allowed through the scholarship program.
How to Apply
Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: The respective organisation must submit a letter of recommendation on behalf of the applicant to 'application@sbw.berlin’.
Step 4: Selected candidates will be provided with access to the application form.

Applications are accepted throughout the year.
Benefits
Selected candidates will receive:-
- Furnished room in shared student flats in Berlin
- Living allowance of EUR 480 per month
- Tuition fees
- Travel contribution for the journey to Berlin before the start of the course of study and for the journey home after successful completion of the course
The duration of funding is between 30 days to a maximum of 48 months.
Required Documents
- Letter of recommendation from a non-profit organisation or social institution, or one of SBW Berlin’s partner organisations
- A duly filled application form
- Project description (two to five pages)
- Qualifications for university entrance
- Information about the net household income
- Copy of the last school or university certificate
- Copy of the highest academic degree
- Admission proof (if available)
- Internationally recognised language certificate (if available)
- All previous work, training, apprenticeship and internship certificates and references (if available)
Selection Criteria
The recommendation letters will be reviewed for the initial shortlisting of applicants, and subsequent applications and interviews will be conducted for final selection.
