About the Program

The Education In Russia Scholarships for Indian Students 2026-27 is an opportunity offered by the Government of the Russian Federation. What is the Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen
  • pursue a full-time degree program at Bachelor's, Specialist's, Master's, PhD level, or advanced training courses
  • apply to study at any Russian university (except Lomonosov Moscow State University and MGIMO)
  • hold a diploma/degree from a previous education with academic transcripts

Note:- 

  • Proficiency in Russian is not mandatory. 
  • Students who don't speak Russian can opt for a one-year Russian language preparatory course before starting their main program.
  • Students can select up to 6 universities, but will be enrolled in the one that accepts them.

Step 3: Click on the 'Register' button, create an account with the required details, and then again click on the ‘Register’ button.
Step 4: The Activation application link will be sent to the registered email. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button to verify your account.
Step 5: Use valid credentials to login.
Step 6: Browse the available options for the chosen course/university/location on the website and follow the instructions to apply.

Selection Criteria

  • Submission of Online Application: Applications are submitted through the official portal, along with required academic and identity documents, and a list of up to six preferred universities in order of priority.
  • First-Stage Screening (Where Applicable): Applicants for state-funded places may be required to appear for screening tests and/or interviews conducted by authorised representatives in their home country, leading to a score and national ranking.
  • Second-Stage University Review: Shortlisted applications are reviewed by participating universities for further assessments, where applicable, before final decisions.
  • Final Selection and Admission Offer: Successful candidates receive confirmation of admission, details of the admitting institution, and instructions for travel and enrolment.

Note:

  • Applications are submitted online and free of charge at the initial stage. However, applicants are responsible for costs related to document translation, notarisation, consularisation or apostille, as required by the issuing country.
  • For candidates invited to in-person assessments, additional expenses such as visa fees, travel costs, and accommodation may apply and must be borne by the applicant.
  • Upon selection, most foreign students are required to obtain a student visa, issued on the basis of an official invitation from the admitting university or the competent Russian authority. Visa requirements and fees vary by nationality, and applicants should consult the nearest Russian embassy or consulate.
  • After arrival in Russia, students must obtain Voluntary Health Insurance (VHI), which typically costs RUB 4,000–12,000 (approx. ₹4,434.89-13,304.68) per year. Health insurance is mandatory, and residing in Russia without valid coverage may result in penalties.
  • Universities generally provide student dormitory accommodation at subsidised rates, ranging from RUB 300–6,000 per month (approx. ₹332.62 – ₹6,652.34), depending on the city and institution. Alternative private housing options are also available at the student’s discretion.
  • Applicants are advised to regularly check their personal account for updates and to maintain direct communication with the admitting university for arrival dates, document verification, and enrolment formalities.
  • The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has no role in the nomination/selection of candidates.
