About the Program
The Amsterdam Merit Law Scholarship 2026-27 is an opportunity offered by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) to students having applied for a Master’s programme. This scholarship aims to attract and support the education of bright and enthusiastic students from all over the world. The selected candidates shall receive a scholarship of €25,900.

What is the Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
- apply to a Master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for the first time.
- have not previously obtained a Master’s degree from the UvA.
- comply with Dutch visa regulations as outlined by the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).
- apply to one of the following Master’s programmes:
- International and European Law
- European Private Law
- Law & Finance
- International Criminal Law
- have a minimum GPA comparable to one of the following:
- 4.0 in the USA grading system
- First Class Honours in the UK system
- 8.0 in the Dutch EC-system (10-point scale)
(Note: If the applicant holds a non-law bachelor’s degree that qualifies for admission to the chosen LLM programme, only law-related courses will be considered in the GPA calculation.)

The candidates for LLAMS are selected on the basis of the evaluation of the applications by the selection committee.
More Details about this Scholarship
- Applicants must notify the scholarship office as soon as possible throughout the academic year of any change in nationality, type of residence permit, or possible support via Studiefinanciering.
- To avail the benefits of the scholarship, applicants must enrol at the UvA as a full-time student for the academic year. However, they do not need an admission offer to apply for the scholarship.
